Hello, my name is Jennifer Deye. I recently
saw Stagebrush Theater's production of All Night Strut.
I read your review and I
would just like to know exactly what you mean by the sound design
being buggy??? I thought that the sound worked. Also, I thought
that an elaborate set design would have taken away from the affect
of this show. Thank you for your time and I would appreciate your
response soon.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I'm always glad to answer your questions for you.
On opening night (Friday), there were at least five times, mostly in the second act, when feedback from the sound system overwhelmed the singers. That is the bug in the system to which I refer. I'm sure that by the time you saw it, the levels had been reset to compensate.
I agree that an elaborate set design was unnecessary. I do think, however, that it was rather plain and ordinary looking, and such things as an uneven cut on the lip of the Stage Right platform made it look a bit shoddily built. I also thought that the two turning staircases, while appropriate to period, appeared a bit treacherous for the women. They kept having to consciously look down to navigate them in their heels and skirts, distracting them from singing to the audience. This might also be the fault of the costumer, but I figured with the other problems, I'd assign these to the set designer.
Please feel free to ask for clarifications any time.
Cheers,
Mark S.P. Turvin
