Title: 1940's Radio Hour
Playwright: Music by various composers
Book by Walton Jones
Director: Jacque Collins
Music Director: Doug Durant
Chorographer: Beth Reynolds
Synopsis of Play: Reflecting the spirit of
a bygone era, when the world was at war and when pop music meant
"The Chatanooga Choo-Choo" and "Boogie-Woogie Bugle
Boy" (both are in the show), it is a live broadcast of a
musical variety hour from the Hotel Astor's Algonquin Room on
December 21, 1942: The Mutual Manhattan Variety Calvacade. The
narrative concerns the harassed producer whose leading singer
is often drunk, the delivery boy who wants a chance in front of
the mike, the second banana who dreams of singing a ballad, and
the trumpet-playing sound effects man who chooses a fighter plane
over Glenn Miller.
