Mark,
Thank you very much for the review of A
Midsummer Nights Dream. I'm glad you liked it. The guy
that played Nick Bottom is actually my brother and working with
him is always a pleasure. I thought that all the comments you
made were well said. My real beef, however, is your review of
Phoenix Theatre's Comedy
of Errors. I saw the show last night I thought it was
wonderful. I then read your review this morning and was surprised
by what you thought. Let me say this: I'm a comic actor, and
rumor has it, I'm pretty darn funny. I firmly believe that Jon
Gentry and Ben Brittain have some of the best comic timing in
the valley. Anyone that can execute those kind of "bits",
if you will, is truly talented. Something is to be said about
a cast that can pull off a chase scene with such immaculate timing
and comic value. Of course we're all entitled to our opinions,
and I thought I'd share mine. Thanks for your reviews and insights.
Pete
Peter,
I'm very aware of you, and your solid performance in "Dream" did not escape my notice. I found your show to be wonderful, and you should be proud of yourselves.
I, too, believe that Messrs. Gentry and Brittain are among the most talented comedic actors in the valley. I rarely give either of them a dispariging review. In fact, the negative tone of this review was slanted toward Mr. Shakespeare and Mr. Whitehead. I love farce as much as the next person, but this was too over-the-top, in my opinion.
I respect that you enjoyed the production, and several others to whom I have spoken agree with you. If you're talking about well-executed chase scenes, I prefer Mr. Sakren's high-brown and hilarious ones for the lovers in your production over the endless and overwrought ones offered by Mr. Whitehead.
Thanks for expressing your opinion.
