Subject: enthusiastic actress

mark,
i just want to congratulate you and extend my admiration for your continuing efforts the expand the phoenix theatre community. it is so nice to have a forum for theatre patrons as well as working and aspiring professionals, to be able to see the honest and poignant opinions of such a well written (and well informed) fellow theatre lover.

in a community where one is lucky if the local newspaper prints up a review two days before the close of a show, and the reviewer themslves can get at least one fact about the production and it's show dates correct so that the performances are easily accesible and well advertised; it's so wonderful to see someone so on top of things, and as passionate about the theatre he experiences as the individuals who are performing it are.

to achieve a well recieved and reputable theatre community, which i believe phoenix has the potential to be, it takes individuals like yourself putting that extra effort out there to help good theatre get seen and appreciated as it ought to be. so, thank you for being a stand for theatre in phoenix - your efforts hace not gone unnapreciated or unnoticed.

p.s. shameles theatre plug (not the intent of my letter to you, honest. but i am an actress, so...): "Really Rosie" written by Maurice Sendak and Carol King. It's playing at the Mesa Youtheatre on University and Center, through March 5. Show times are Friday through Saturday at 7:30, with a 4:30 show on Saturday. also a Sunday matinee at 2:00. I play Rosie, and I'd love for you to come see it, if you get a chance. Alright, end of shameless plug. thanks for your time!

Hey, Sarah,

Thanks for the enthusiastic vote of confidence. Sometimes I lose sight of why I'm seeing two or three shows a week for much less money than covers the gas, but then a nice letter like yours comes along to remind me "it's for the love of the theatre, stupid!"

In defense of my colleagues, they would devote much more time and space to listings and reviews, but editors at newspapers have decided that people are more interested in sports and movies, and have severely curtailed their coverage accordingly. You just have to see Kyle Lawson, Max McQueen, Chris Curcio and Robrt Pela sitting through shows even when they know they'll never be allowed to run a review to realize that they'd love to cover much more.

I do remember enjoying watching you perform in shows like "The Boy Friend" and "How To Succeed...", and am sorry that I will not be able to see your latest strutting of the stage; I'll be heading down to Tucson this weekend for ATC's As You Like It. I'm sure you'll be wonderful, though, and please be sure to keep me up-to-date with all of your accomplishments. I've no doubt I'll be seeing you again soon.

Cheers,
